Welcome to POTSies!

"So the question now is one of scope and focus. I think I'm headed towards building a social media platform specifically for those who want to have a place away from traditional social media to meet other people and socialize. A social media site and app based around accessibility. With that in mind, many of the design decisions get easier, and I can use that to guide the overall architecture.

I've been reading up on language and design concepts. It's becoming obvious that disabled people have to overcome significant hurdles on social media because of platform specific design constraints that don't have to exist.
I'll be posting a first draft of the new site design soon.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions!"

Update for 20 / 2 / 27:
The goal of this website is to be a dating / friendship / community tool. No one is rejected here at POTSIES because all of us have been through the same hardships. Everyone who makes contact with you will be aware of your individual challenges up front, and no one will judge you or reject you for them.

We have nearly 40 people in the test group, and most of you have provided feedback. That means a lot to me. This week I'm reevaluating the design to bring in line with accessibility standards and to generally get rid of the casino feel. The site is going to get a major overhaul over the weekend, and I'll be inviting some friends from the Assistive Technology Community For The Blind And Visually Impaired. I can't do that YET, because the site is basically inaccessible to them. At their request, I'm looking into W3C WCAG guidelines and making sure the appropriate images have fully formed text tags.

Most of the photos are placeholders, but the photos in the gallery were donated by a good friend who said she was happy to support the cause with her own social media photos.

Regarding liability, I've actually heard this from the start, that we might be creating a breeding ground for bad people to do bad things. Well, we'll have to mitigate that somehow. I'm not sure exactly how, but I suspect that it will involve scanning private messages for key words and phrases, and a TOS that states clearly that we might intervene if we think something nefarious is afoot. Who knows. I'm open to suggestions.

That said, thank you again everyone, and keep those suggestions coming!

---------------------------------------------------

Feedback from the first day of testing has been phenomenal.
1. Color scheme is not good for accessibility, looks too much like FetLife / Poker joints / Srip clubs. And that's actually fine except for the accessibility part. There's not much point in a dating site for people if the people can't actually use it. So I am looking into accessibility best practices and a different color scheme altogether.

2. A few bugs have been found, and I'll fix those.
3. The obvious 'like' feature is not found on images, and it needs that.
4. There's no main stream of user generated content and there needs to be, whether it's posts from friends or just photos from friends. We want people to actively use the site.
5. The our story and your story links aren't visible on mobile.

Please keep the feedback coming!

Update for Feb 26
Welcome Secret Project #3members! Just click around, look around, and let me know if anything looks off. This is the prototype phase for the UI only. A live version is nearly done, but I wanted to get some feedback on the client side while I'm hooking up the server.

Update for Feb 25.
Final search results are now online (click the first link on the search page).

This means All pages are now finished. Starting later today I'm moving this site back to the main server for the final hookup with the database. This process will take a few days, but starting tomorrow all updates will be found on <the main site>

Update for Feb 18.
The following pages are now finished and published:
1. This main page
2. This main page mobile
3. Our Story
4. Your Profile

Remaining pages are in progress and should be done soon:
1. Search result profile after you click on a link (other person's profile)
2. Image layout.
3. Individual images themselves.
4. Your Profile Mobile
5. Messages for desktop
6. Messages for mobile
7. Search Results for desktop
8. Search Results for mobile.
9. Our Story mobile
10. Your Profile

--------

The current roadmap is now straightforward.
1. Finish flexbox version of website. This will allow the site to seemlessly move between mobile and desktop versions, without requiring completely different websites for each platform. It also means supporting tablets and eventually apps, through the same single interface.

2. Hook up the web server back end again. This part of the site is the 'magic' that allows a social media platform to exist, and it's also largely finished. What is not finished is the connection between the website and the back end, and that's what this step will entail.

3. Build an app based on the flexbox version and something like Phonegap, which will let me basically dump the mobile version of the flexbox website into an app and ship it.

4. Lauch.

After the flexbox update is finished, I'll be moving it onto our server to hook it up to live data.
